Teacher Support Cymru develops links with School-based Counsellingby Sandra Taylor
Teacher Support Cymru (TSC) met with the School-based Counselling service recently to develop links between the two organisations. "The correlation between the Counselling service for pupils and the services Teacher Support Cymru provide for teachers is very clear" said Sandra Taylor, TSC Development Manager. Counsellors will be available to all Secondary schools across Wales by September 2010 and similar pilot projects have been conducted in primary schools across four Local Authorities with year 6 pupils. Yet, while the health and wellbeing of pupils is being recognised, the question of support forteachers remains. Teachers often then speak to these counsellors to ask where they can access support themselves. It is hoped that improved links will help school counsellors direct teachers to TSC, where they can access our services.
