Teacher Support Cymru launches partnership with AMCAN

Having problems dealing with difficult people is one of the main reasons why teachers seek support from Teacher Support Cymru. Thanks to a unique partnership between the charity and training provider AMCAN Consultancy and Training, teachers in Wales will now have the opportunity to learn more about dealing with that difficult parent along with a range of other issues.

The workshops and courses cover a range of topics that aim to support teachers in their professional and personal lives, complimenting the support services already offered by Teacher Support Cymru. Established by former Assistant Headteacher Andy McCann, AMCAN Consultancy and Training will provide professional, experienced facilitators to lead the workshops.

AMCAN C&T Ltd has people - their goals, happiness, health and performance - at the heart of its mission statement.
As one of the facilitators, Andy is in a unique position to help teachers who have undergone trauma or life changing experience, having suffered a stroke whilst teaching at Cardinal Newman High in South Wales. Andy then set up AMCAN Consultancy and Training to proactively help teachers, by helping them gain skills to better manage stress, workload and pupils. Workshop topics range from ‘voice care’ to ‘conflict management and mediation.’

Stress prevention is an important aspect of Teacher Support Cymru’s work, and AMCAN will kindly donate a percentage of its profit to the charity, to contribute to the cost of providing free, confidential, bilingual services for all teachers in Wales.

The bilingual courses and workshops are available for individual schools, school clusters, union branches, universities and local authorities throughout Wales. Each workshop can be tailored to suit the needs of delegates.

Patrick Nash, Chief Executive of Teacher Support Cymru said:

‘The partnership with AMCAN Consultancy and Training is a unique opportunity for both organisations to make a real difference to teachers’ lives in Wales, and it’s fantastic that we can offer the workshops in Welsh or English.’
