Thanks to all those who helped us find out about the impact of social networking websites such as Facebook, Bebo and Twitter on professionals working in the education sector. Our 2010 cyberbullying survey, conducted jointly with ATL, is now closed. We will publish the results soon.

In 2009 Teacher Support Scotland conducted a joint survey with the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) on the subject of cyberbullying: in which information technology, particularly mobile phones and the internet, is deliberately used to upset someone else.

Last year's survey showed that one in seven respondents said they had experienced cyberbullying and almost one in five said they knew of colleagues who had become victims.

Although a significant proportion - 44 per cent - had been bullied by pupils, a startling 28 per cent said that a manager or colleague was behind the abuse.

Results from the 2009 survey featured in DCSF's new guidance on cyberbullying last year.

This year we asked for your help once again. Our call centre and online support service continues to receive an increasing number of calls on issues around social networking. Our joint 2010 survey reflected this and sought to find out about the impact of social networking websites such as Facebook, Bebo and Twitter on professionals working in the education sector.
