PWC REPORT MIRRORS OUR OWN FINDINGS
We are pleased that the Government has reformed elements of the procurement process

By Joe Williams : 21 January 2009

Commenting on the PriceWaterhouseCooper Second Annual Report on the Evaluation of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, Teacher Support Network Chief Executive, Patrick Nash, said:

“We commend the PwC report, which mirrors the findings of our ‘Just another brick in the wall' publication released in partnership with the British Council for School Environments last year. Our report found that there were significant barriers that prevented teachers from fully engaging in the BSF procurement process, which meant that their needs were not always met in new school buildings.

“Time pressures – resulting from the rapid pace of the procurement process and teacher workload - restrict the opportunity for teachers to contribute their expertise to the creation of their new working environment. Given the chance, teachers can ensure that their new buildings facilitate both high standards of teaching and learning, as well as high standards of staff and pupil wellbeing.

“We are pleased that the Government has reformed elements of the procurement process since our report. We now hope that, in line with PwC's recommendations, further support is given to enable teachers to be actively involved in the creation of their schools.”
