Cyberbullying in the news: Teachers and pupils face mounting threats onlineBeatbulling and Teacher Support Network surveys highlight the problem facing students and educatorsBy Andrew Lyons : 4 March 2009
One third of kids have been the victim of cyberbullying according to the anti-bullying charity Beatbullying, and a recent joint survey by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers and Teacher Support Network found that 1 out of 7 (15 per cent of respondents) experienced cyberbulling.
What qualifies as cyberbullying? It happens whenever someone is being attacked or intimidated by someone else through the use of an electronic device such as mobile phone texts or online tools such as email, chatrooms, social networks, etc. Since the surveys' recent release, news organisations have covered the topic heavily.
